MORE INFO:
Officer Nicholas Roche transferred to Bellevue Police last year from the Honolulu Police Department. His path into law enforcement was unusual. "Before I was a police officer, I was an acrobat with Cirque Du Soleil," he said.
Video shows him performing the Cube Alegria in Japan in 2005 as Nico Roche. He met his wife during the show . The two moved to Hawaii where she was from to start a family. After having two kids, he says they wanted to find a more affordable place to settle down. “We checked the Pacific NW area and found Bellevue Police Department in an area where we can buy a house and they have really good schools," he said.
Twitter accounts called out a Bellevue police officer’s social media feeds on Tuesday, June 2, which appear to promote conspiracy theories including retweeting a post that falsely claimed the cops responsible in George Floyd’s death were not the ones that have since been identified and arrested, and a selfie in police gear with a caption connected to “QAnon,” a conspiracy theory alleging a secret plot against President Donald Trump.
The officer has since deleted both his Twitter and Facebook account, although some accounts have screenshots of the posts, which are still circulating on Twitter.
Following an exhaustive review, the investigator found that while the officer’s social media posts were “Ill-advised and imprudent,” she concluded, “There is an absence of evidence suggesting that Ofc. Roche ascribes to or harbors alt-right or extremist beliefs, or any other improper ideologies or biases that call into question his fitness to serve as a law enforcement officer.”
Bellevue Police Chief Steve Mylett did find the officer violated the Bellevue Police Department’s Standards of Conduct Policy 11.00.240. “The Bellevue Police Department takes complaints of an officer’s integrity and judgement very seriously,” stated Chief Mylett. “In this case, the investigator determined no impartiality, but the officer’s social media activity was in poor judgement and in violation of BPD policy.” Officer Roche received a letter of reprimand in his file.
